journey
From mechanical engineering to computational neuroscience. The courses, tools and roles along the way.
2026
Python course helper EMBL (EMBL-wide course) Online helper for a 3-day Python course open to the whole of EMBL.
Scientific Trainee EMBL Rome Leading the analysis of a project, from tracking behaviour in video to modelling how decisions are made under uncertainty.
What I did
- Lead the analysis for the project.
- Built a DeepLabCut pipeline for markerless tracking of behaviour from video.
- Model decision-making under uncertainty with partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs).
2024
Quantitative Biology Workshop (7.QBWx) MITx on edX Computational tools (MATLAB, Python, PyMOL and R) for analysing biological data.
Research Assistant Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore Part of a team of three running experiments on stress, decision-making and responses to painful stimuli.
What I did
- Helped design and run experiments on stress and decision-making, and on orientation towards painful stimuli.
- Carried out the statistical analysis and presented the findings in a scientific format.
- Handled purchase orders under tight deadlines.
- Volunteered for the department outreach programme, giving talks on "Introduction to Neuroscience" to students.
2023
Technical Editor Packt Publishing, India Made sure code and technical content in programming books were correct and clear.
What I did
- Ran code snippets and researched problems to confirm technical accuracy.
- Worked with authors, editors and reviewers to deliver accurate content on time.
- Managed book repositories and resolved issues reported by readers.
Computational Neuroscience Neuromatch Academy Modelling approaches for understanding how the brain works, from neurons to decisions.
What it covered
- Intro to modelling.
- Machine learning, from generalised linear models to dimensionality reduction and deep learning.
- Dynamical systems, with biologically inspired models of neurons and networks.
- Stochastic processes, including Bayesian inference and decisions under uncertainty.
- Network causality.
Applied in A group project predicting personality traits from task-fMRI activity.
Fundamentals of Neuroscience HarvardX on edX Neural signalling, brain structure, sensation and perception, and how the brain drives decisions and behaviour.
Single Variable Calculus – Integration (18.01x) MITx on edX Integrals as areas under graphs, techniques for computing them, and applications from beam stress to rocket distance.
2022
Computational Thinking using Python MITx on edX Computation, algorithms, testing, debugging and algorithmic complexity, taught through Python.
Introduction to Scripting in Python Coursera Python 3 scripting for everyday tasks, including data analysis, visualisation and debugging.
Using Python for Research HarvardX on edX A bridge from basic to advanced Python through research-oriented tools and case studies.
Applied in My Python case studies Jupyter Book.
Online Mathematics Tutor Focus Edumatics, India [Remote] My first job! My role involved tutoring kids on maths. It was challenging in a fun way since I had to come up with various ways of explaining topics to help solve doubts.
What I did
- Analysed tutoring data to track performance trends, keeping a 4.9/5 average KPI rating.
- Built Excel dashboards and automated recurring reports in Python, cutting manual effort by 50%.
- Worked with operations on scheduling, feedback and quality decisions.
